Jackie Munro Online Portfolio

I created a portfolio site for Jackie Munro, a photography student at NYU. She wanted a simple, static, very minimalist site with specific font and color requirements, an image viewer, embedded quicktime video, and some playful navigation elements.

This second iteration incorporates a new sans serif typeface and a stark white & dark grey color palette that helps showcase the photography.

Dawson’s Chess

I designed a new, dark visual interface for the ultra-simple Dawson’s Chess game. See if you can beat the computer–it’s harder than it looks.

The code for the game is borrowed from Thomas Feguson, a professor of mathematics at UCLA. You can view the original version at his website here.

The Action Sports Chart Challenge

Using skis on a hill covered in snow is ’skiing’, but riding a board on the same hill is ’snowboarding’. Pulling that board behind a boat on a lake is ‘wakeboarding’, but if you switch back to skis, you’re ‘waterskiing’. Interesting…

So as an information visualization exercise, I made a chart of every extreme sport I know.  It’s organized on one axis by “vehicle” (board, bike, etc) and on the other by “venue” (snow-covered mountain, lake, breaking waves…)

Please comment if you know of sports I missed (see disclaimer under the chart) or, more importantly, if you SEE A BLANK GRID AND MAKE UP A NEW SPORT.

Radio Player for Yahoo! Widgets

I designed an audio streaming widget for the Yahoo! Widget Engine for our student radio station. So far, we’ve have more than 2,000 downloads. View or download here.

yahoowidget

The player is based off of an earlier version of the 5FM Streamer Widget. Some of the other radio widgets were visually way too busy; I wanted to make the player as simple as possible. The widget has a link to the station’s website and a play button over a glossy blue base.

Radio Embeddable Player Interface

I made some graphics for an embeddable flash player for The LION 90.7fm.  See them action (or embed them!) on the LION’s website here.

iPhone Medical App

I designed a few mockups for a medical iPhone application proposal for a Human-Computer Interaction course.  The application would provide doctors and nurses with up-to-the-minute patient information and alerts, replacing their current phones and pagers.
